Inside linebacker Alex Singleton has been named the Denver Broncos’ recipient of the 2025 Ed Block Courage Award. The announcement was made during a team meeting on Thursday in Englewood, Colorado.
The Ed Block Courage Award is given annually to NFL players who demonstrate commitment to sportsmanship and display exceptional courage, character, and effort. Teammates select the recipients for this honor.
Singleton was chosen by his teammates after facing significant challenges over the past year. On September 22, 2024, he suffered a torn ACL in his left leg during the first quarter of a game against the Buccaneers but continued to play every defensive snap for the rest of that game. Later in the season, Singleton underwent surgery on November 7 after being diagnosed with testicular cancer. Following successful surgery to remove the tumor, he returned to play two weeks later on “Sunday Night Football.”
Since joining Denver as an unrestricted free agent in 2022, Singleton has played in 50 games with 44 starts. He has recorded 469 tackles (259 solo), three sacks, one interception, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries. In 2025, Singleton leads the Broncos with 111 tackles through 14 games and has led the team in tackles in three out of his four seasons. His total tackles rank tied for thirteenth most in the NFL over that period.
The Ed Block Courage Award is named after Ed Block, former head athletic trainer of the Baltimore Colts and respected humanitarian. The award is part of a league-wide initiative started in 1984. Details about ceremonies recognizing recipients from all 32 NFL teams will be announced at a later date.
