The Denver Broncos advanced to the AFC Championship Game after a 33-30 overtime win against the Buffalo Bills on Saturday in Denver. The victory marks the team’s first playoff win in ten years and brings them within one game of reaching Super Bowl LX.
The game was characterized by several lead changes and crucial plays, with Denver’s defense playing a significant role by forcing five turnovers—three fumbles and two interceptions—which led to 16 points for the Broncos. This performance resulted in the second-most takeaways in franchise postseason history.
Head Coach Sean Payton commented on the team’s readiness: “We obviously weren’t ready last year, but we were ready today.” He also praised quarterback Bo Nix, who threw three touchdown passes before leaving the game with a fractured ankle that will keep him out for the remainder of the postseason. “He was fantastic when we needed him,” Payton said of Nix.
One pivotal moment occurred at the end of the first half when Bo Nix connected with Lil’Jordan Humphrey for a touchdown, giving Denver a 17-10 lead. Shortly after, Devon Key recovered a fumble forced by Nik Bonitto, setting up a 50-yard field goal from Wil Lutz to extend Denver’s advantage to ten points at halftime. Payton highlighted this sequence as critical: “That probably was the difference in the game.”
Defensively, Ja’Quan McMillian made an overtime interception that helped keep Denver’s hopes alive. “You’ll go five, 10 years before you see a turnover like that one,” Payton said. McMillian described his play: “I just made a play and basically took it out of his hands and came up with it.”
Nik Bonitto contributed two forced fumbles, including a strip sack, while Alex Singleton led all players with 14 tackles and forced another key fumble. Wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. caught eight passes for 93 yards and scored a touchdown; he also drew a pass interference call that set up Wil Lutz’s game-winning field goal in overtime.
Tackle Frank Crum caught a touchdown pass, becoming only the sixth offensive lineman since 2021 to do so in an NFL playoff game.
Wil Lutz converted all four field-goal attempts during the game, including kicks from long range and the final score that secured Denver’s win.
The Broncos will next face either the New England Patriots or Houston Texans in their bid to reach Super Bowl LX.
