Former Denver Broncos defensive back Steve Foley was inducted into the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame on April 16, joining a group of celebrated athletes and coaches recognized for their contributions to sports in the state.

Foley’s induction is notable as it adds to his legacy with the Broncos, where he was previously honored by being named to the team’s Ring of Fame in 2024. The recognition underscores his impact both on and off the field during his eleven-year career with Denver.

“It is a tremendous honor not only for me, but also for my family,” Foley told DenverBroncos.com. “I’m just humbled. I’m thankful, I’m grateful — and my grandkids actually know now that I did play, by these awards. So, it’s good to be able to celebrate it in front of them.”

Foley was drafted by the Broncos out of Tulane in 1975 and spent his entire professional football career with Denver. He played both cornerback and safety, setting a franchise record with 44 interceptions—a mark that still stands today. During three different seasons he recorded at least six interceptions and ranked among the league’s top ten defenders in this category multiple times.

A key member of the “Orange Crush” defense, Foley helped lead Denver to its first Super Bowl appearance after the 1977 season and later started in Super Bowl XXI nearly a decade later. Reflecting on joining other former teammates who are also members of both halls of fame, Foley said: “That group of men — it’s some of the greatest men I know,” adding: “And a lot of them are in the Ring of Fame and in the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame. It means a lot to me to go up alongside them.” At Thursday’s banquet celebrating this achievement, he was joined by twenty family members and friends.

“There’s a lot of great names in here,” Foley said. “I’m just humbled to be alongside those great names.”
