Arapahoe County issued the following announcement on June 4.
As we make our way through the COVID crisis, many people are wondering how they’ll be able to vote safely this year, and how we’ll ensure the integrity of our elections. These concerns are even more pronounced given that 2020 is a Presidential election year, which inevitably brings our highest levels of voter participation.
The Arapahoe County Clerk and Recorder’s office is instituting numerous protocols and procedures that will continue to safeguard the electoral process, while also protecting voters and our elections staff from COVID-related risks. Ballots for the June 30 State Primary Election will begin being distributed on June 8, and we wanted to make sure you’re clear about what your options are.
As you probably know, Colorado has embraced comprehensive voting by mail since 2013, and this remains the safest way for voters to protect themselves from exposure to COVID at a public polling place. Arapahoe County is encouraging everyone to vote at home if they can, by mailing their ballot or by returning it to one of the County’s 30 secure 24-hour drop-boxes no later than 7 p.m. on the state primary election night, June 30. The Clerk’s office has added a new 24-hr drop box at Aurora’s Central Recreation Center for this election.
Anyone who needs a replacement mail ballot will have the option to call our office to schedule a convenient and safe “curbside pickup” at any of our six voting service centers from June 22 through Election Day. An election judge will bring your ballot to your car as you wait in a reserved parking spot (just remember to bring your ID!).
Those who still want to vote in person can avoid Election Day crowds by visiting one of our voting services centers beginning at 9 a.m. on June 22, including Saturday hours on June 27. These facilities—along with our ballot processing center—will have strict COVID-related controls in place to protect voters and staff, including mask and hygiene requirements and social distancing measures.
