Get a Taste of Colorado at Local Farmers Markets

We know summer has finally arrived when farmers markets start popping up all over town like daffodils. There’s nothing like strolling among booths of farmers and artisans selling their wares on a Colorado summer morning. Where else can you find an eclectic mix of locally produced foods and handcrafted items all in one location?

Don’t let the summer pass you by without a trip to at least one of our local farmers markets. Here are a few that you may want to try:

Cherry Creek Fresh Market

3000 E. 1st Ave., Denver

Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Less than four miles north of campus, the Cherry Creek Fresh Market is Denver’s largest farmers market, and it turns 25 this summer! The market is opened twice during the week. Vendors sell Colorado grown, raised and made products. You’ll enjoy fresh produce, prepared foods, handcrafted items and live music at this festive outdoor market. Parking is free on market days. The Wednesday market runs through September 28, the Saturday market runs through November 5.

Boulder Farmers Market

13th St. at Canyon Blvd., Boulder

Wednesdays from 4 p.m. to dusk

Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Just west of town in Buffaloes country, the Saturday Boulder Farmers Market focuses on growers and local food producers with a large selection of produce, meats, handcrafted sauces, cheese, honey and fresh bread. Enough to whet your appetite! The Wednesday market is an evening version. Visitors find the same good food and products from over 60 vendors, yet the evening market has a different vibe. The Wednesday market runs through October 5, and the Saturday market runs through November 19. No pets are allowed.

Golden Farmers Market

1019 10th St., Golden

Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Located at the base of the Rocky Mountains, Golden is a modern town with an old west flair. On Saturdays, locals and visitors alike enjoy strolling through the small neighborhood farmers market, which is celebrating its 20th season! Local produce, flowers, baked goods, local honey and more line the streets. Parking is available in the parking garages on Jackson Street. Open through October 8.

City Park Farmers Market

2551 E. Colfax Ave., Denver

Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

City Park is home to the Denver Zoo, the Denver Museum of Nature & Science and more recently a Saturday farmers market that proudly serves locally grown foods. Their mission is to champion local food producers. Explore food options for breakfast, brunch or lunch, and enjoy live music by local musicians. Produce vendors sell seasonal, high quality foods that are good for the environment and the local economy. Open through October 29.

South Pearl Street Farmers Market

1527 S. Pearl St., Denver

Sundays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

South Pearl Street, just a 2-mile jaunt from campus, is one of Denver’s most historic and charming shopping districts. For years, the bustling farmers market has taken over Pearl Street on Sunday mornings. It’s a gathering place as much as a shopping area and a place to sample foods or enjoy a meal. Dozens of vendors line the street including those offering farm produce, hand-crafted items, prepared foods and professional services. The market runs through November 13.

Highlands Ranch Farmers Market

9288 Dorchester St., Highlands Ranch

Sundays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This market is located about 10 miles south of DU in Highlands Ranch. It’s run by Metro Denver Farmers' Market, the oldest farmers market in the Denver area. Over 30 vendors sell their wares every Sunday throughout the summer. You’ll find fresh local produce plus handmade pottery and jewelry; all-natural soaps, salts and teas; coffee and coffee products; healthy gourmet foods; roasted nuts; baked goods and more. Check it out! The market runs through October 30.
