Mountain West Athletes Head to 2023 NCAA Indoor Championships

The NCAA released the start lists for the 2023 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, which will be hosted by New Mexico at the Albuquerque Convention Center from March 10-11. The Mountain West has 13 student-athletes that qualified for the NCAA championships.
 
New Mexico has a MW-leading four student-athletes competing at the NCAA championships. Amelia Mazza-Downie and Gracelyn Larkin qualified for the 5,000-meter race, while Ethan Brouw will run the 800-meter race and Jake Burkey will compete in the long jump. Mazza-Downie qualified with her time of 15:18.54 at the Husky Classic, while Larkin qualified with a time of 15:37.47 at the Sharon Colyear Season Opener. Burkey broke the Mountain West championship record in the long jump, claiming the title with a personal-best leap of 7.87 meters, while Brouw qualified for the 800-meter race with a time of 1:47.21 at the Husky Classic.
 
Colorado State is sending three athletes to the 2023 NCAA championship meet with Sarah Carter running in the 5,000-meter race, while Gabi McDonald and Lexie Keller compete in the shot put and pentathlon, respectively. Carter and Keller both collected goal medals in their events at the Conference championship, while McDonald finished second in the shot put.
 
Sam Gilman from Air Force earned his second-straight bid to the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, qualifying in the 3,000-meter race. Gilman is ranked 11th on the NCAA list of 3,000-meter entries after posting an Academy and Mountain West record time of 7:43.70 at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in mid-February. 
 
Boise State’s MaLeigha Menegatti qualified for the women’s 800-meter race after clocking a personal-best time of 2:03.83, breaking the all-time Mountain West record and winning the 800-meter gold medal at the Conference meet.
 
San Diego State’s Simone Johnson qualified for the triple jump competition, while Jenna Fee Feyerabend will compete in the pentathlon. Johnson’s second-place jump of 13.43 meters at the MW championship earned her a spot at the NCAA championship. Feyerbend qualified for the pentathlon with a season-best score of 4,179 points, the most points in program history.
 
San José State’s Emilia Sjostrand will compete in both the long jump and triple jump at the NCAA championships after winning the individual title in both events at the MW championship.  
 
UNLV’s Rosa Santana qualified for the women’s shot put with a throw of 17.93 meters at the Don Kirby Invitational. In her MW championship debut, Santana won gold with a Conference championship record throw of 17.91 meters.
